Moue ingénue, regard comme un défi, corps de lolita électrisé par un micro-short en jean, telle était la Vanessa Paradis au crépuscule des années 90 : une apparition — déflagration dans le paysage pop français. Cette photo signée Bettina Rheims est ma seule et unique collaboration en tant que styliste avec Vanessa.

Plus de vingt ans ont passé, j’ai toujours suivi d’un œil curieux et admiratif la carrière sur scène et au cinéma de Vanessa, tout comme ses choix d’une vie discrète et repliée, entre Paris et Hollywood, élégant bras d’honneur à l’insatiable voracité des paparazzi et de la presse people. Surexposée depuis ses 14 ans et le succès phénoménal de Joe le taxi, sa popularité élégamment façonnée grâce à Serge Gainsbourg, Patrice Leconte, Jean-Paul Goude pour Chanel ou encore Benjamin Biolay, elle a su converger tout son mystère. Un défi, à notre époque, qu’elle relève avec grâce. Rien d’étonnant donc à ce que Vanessa se voit offrir la rédaction en chef de ce Vogue de Noël. C’est une occasion rêvée pour elle de se dévoiler en toute confiance et, pour moi, de la retrouver toutes ces années après sur un plateau photo. Avec le même plaisir.

Ingénue pout, gaze like a challenge, body of Lolita electrified by denim micro-shorts, such was the Vanessa Paradis at the dusk of the 90s: an apparition — deflagration in the French pop landscape. This photo signed Bettina Rheims is my one and only collaboration as stylist to Vanessa.

More than twenty years have passed, I have always followed with a curious and admiring eye the career on stage and screen of Vanessa, like her choice of a discreet life and folded, between Paris and Hollywood, elegant bras d’honneur to the insatiable voracity of the paparazzi and the tabloids. Overexposed since she was 14 years old and the phenomenal success of “Joe le taxi,” her popularity elegantly shaped thanks to Serge Gainsbourg, Patrice Leconte, Jean-Paul Goude for Chanel or even Benjamin Biolay, she was able to converge all of her mystery. A challenge, in our time, which she meets with grace. It is therefore not surprising that Vanessa was offered editor in chief of Vogue this Christmas. This is a great opportunity for her to disclose in confidence and, for me, to find her after all these years on a photo board. With the same pleasure.
