Vogue Paris: Blonde
By Kamila Brudzynska

A kiss on the hand may be quite continental
But diamonds are a girl's best friend
A kiss may be grand but it won't pay the rental on your humble flat
Or help you at the automat

In the short text next to the photos we can read the Marilyn Monroe quote: "I'm not interested in money. I just want to be wonderful." So, yes, the photo shoot "Blonde" will be inspired by her. I was afraid because I hate when celebrities or even huge stars are dressed up like Marilyn in shoots. She was the only one and she died in 1962. And it should be the end of the topic. BUT I have to admit that Magdalena Frackowiak, Giampaolo Sgura, Géraldine Saglio and the Vogue Paris team did a great job with the editorial "Blonde" for the May issue.

Tiffany's...
Cartier...
Black Star
Frost Gorham
Talk to me Harry Winston, tell me all about it!

These pictures are not obvious and boring. It's only the inspiration, not the copy. Finally! Magda doesn't have the mole but we all know who she is playing. The hair is not the same, only similar. And I think Magda's poses are awesome because they don't look so fake as usual. She played this character better than many actresses that have tried, chapeau bas!

Time rolls on and youth is gone
And you can't straighten up when you bend
But stiff back or stiff knees
You stand straight at Tiffany's

The idea of the photo shoot also is not the empty, sad copy of Marilyn's one. In Vogue Paris we have more poses, we can see a new interpretation of MM original photos. Beautiful, classy jewelry is the first association to the song from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. This mix of connecting old and new ideas was amazing for me!

Diamonds... Diamonds...
I don't mean rhinestones
But diamonds are a girl's best...
Best friend!

Review: Vogue Paris May 2013 Issue
By Heather Dunhill

I love that the team at Vogue Paris signaled the start of summer in the May issue with a cruise up the French waterways showing a modern take on favorites like the Breton stripe, the white pant, and the rolled jean. Be sure to get your proper dose of what’s next for sunnies in "C’est Vogue" beginning on page 68, any of which will render you instantly summer chic. And, all the trompe-l'oeil products can be found in "Beauté," pages 101–102, to make us look as if we’ve conquered the seasonal sun without the damage. But, that’s as far as summertime went…

Then it gets a bit dysfunctional for me as far as editorials go. We hop out to the desert dunes, which I really dig — great styling by Emmanuelle Alt. From there, a quick change to downtown couture, another chic layout by Alt. After which, we take a sharp left turn and hit "Esprit Tribal"… not so fab. Our final destination is somewhere dry, the UAE perhaps, with "Sultane" then a red-eye to Cannes where the issue definitely finishes strong in style and styling. An entirely chic tome in style, no doubt. Just a head scratcher as far as leitmotif, a far cry from the strongly themed Peru issue just a month ago.

The not-to-be-missed gems, and right on time, are the dark glamour features: "Punk Atomique" and "Dieu Underground," which are certain to serve as a primer for the debut of "Punk: Chaos to Couture" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC this month. And, be sure to catch my review of Alt’s editorial "Couture," which features the punk girl, all grown up and modern.

A real program of fitness, condensing the techniques, trends, and top tips to sculpt a body and a mind of steel. On newsstands May 24.

"Summer advances under our noses and, with it, the best intentions are on the agenda. The purpose of this issue of Vogue: Get in shape, harmonize its forms, and be in tune with the body," writes Emmanuelle Alt, editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, in the editorial of the June/July 2013 issue. On the cover for this special summer, Andreea Diaconu reveals her gorgeous body on the beaches of St. Barths, photographed by Mario Sorrenti. After a first series noticed last February, the top Romanian marks here her very first cover of Vogue Paris and distills her good advice to sculpt a body and a mind of steel. Beside the passion for karate, Anja Rubik reveals a different program based on her yoga and meditation. Among the tips from girls in vogue and new trends coming straight from the United States, it remains only to choose from the bathing suit supplement of Vogue Paris, deciphering this essential ally from every angle.

Vogue Paris: Couture
By Heather Dunhill

It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed an editorial styled by Emmanuelle Alt. As a refresher, they haven’t always garnered my highest praise. But, here in the May issue of Vogue Paris she rocks a new Alt, releasing her hold on the 80s with the editorial titled "Couture."

Alt styles haute couture with the dynamic photographic talent of Inez and Vinoodh with model Freja Beha Erichsen. The clean shots pop with punk subculture, a nod to the opening of Punk: Chaos to Couture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this month. Alt proves to us that to be stylish you have to know fashion’s past because history repeats itself — punk is fresh again.

She hits all the hardcore notes for the modern punk poster girl who has taken a maroon, four-door sedan to the borough of Brooklyn where she’ll duck into the underground clubs, eschewing the mainstream and embracing the new noir. It was a sight from the opening image with the studded toque designed by Philip Treacy atop the hot white, cropped Armani Privé jacket to the divine Zuhair Murad gold and alabaster feather cape that shrouded a sequined pantsuit, hit with color at her tomato red pumps.

The strong-shouldered metallic foil frock by Iris Van Herpen emphasizes the rarefied bird on the streets of Willamsburg that can make her way onto any scene there is to be seen. Freja Beha Erichsen in the gilt mini dress by Atelier Versace can open all doors herself, no doubt. But, take a tip from Alt when you get to the Maison Martin Margiela ligne Artisanal shot — pairing silver with a slick scarlet — without question, it will be found on the trend-current street stylers, so get to it before they do...

Vogue Paris: Un Ange A Ma Table
By Yuka Ryou

For the May issue of Vogue Paris, Joe McKenna styled an editorial titled "Un ange à ma table." The model is Sam Rollinson, photographed by David Sims.

This theme was difficult for me. When I had looked at this editorial at first, I couldn’t understand the meaning of "Un ange à ma table." Does it mean "An angel at my table," right? Is she an angel? I’m not going to say irony. I really couldn’t understand.

Absolutely, these photos are beautiful. However to be honest, I can't explain well my emotion, but I had felt a touch of loneliness from these. Why...?

From these big silhouette clothes, I had remembered the Fall 2012's COMME des GARÇONS RTW. Do you remember that? It was a fantastic collection. Giovanna Battaglia had been wearing the red coat so naturally. (She is awesome!) But can we wearing it nice like her? Those collection pieces were flat and strong design, so it would be difficult to wear in the office or town. In Japan, one young actress was wearing the same jacket on a TV commercial for Tokyo metro. But it didn't match with the town. The girl looks like a clown…

Of course I love that Vogue Paris showed us dream and fantasy. But I prefer more Parisian mode style. My fashion's motto is how do I take the collection essence into my usual coordinates. Parisian is showing us the fashion which mixed by basic and mode style. I hope to get into my wardrobe the style.

Sometimes, I'm thinking about, "What is the own mode style?" Still I don’t have my answer. I want to know how do you think. And what do you feel from these photos? Please teach to me!

Review: Vogue Paris April 2013 Issue
By Heather Dunhill

Well, I’m not sure what — but something happened over there in the executive offices of Vogue Paris. The chic tome has undergone a sea change of style and it’s quite fabulous.

Our highly desired and coveted fashionable mag largely resembles an exceptional ode to woman. Especially the "Montres" editorial beginning on page 85. Photographer Giampaolo Sgura and stylist Claire Dhelens give us sexy up front and very personal, the way only the French press can. It’s simple and sweet, showing us the epitome of the Parisian girl and how lovely she can be in only a timepiece, tousled tresses, petal pink polish, and Carine Gilson’s couture lingerie or a crisp white blouse. ~Sigh~

The issue shines. Specifically for the peripatetic femme who lusts for the luxe of travel. Stylists Véronique Didry, Sarajane Hoare, Anastasia Barbieri, and even Emmanuelle Alt, carried the issue’s theme by expertly tackling the clash of Peruvian heat and hue, incorporating a Roy G. Biv blend of color into an already sultry culture. It’s all in the mix, proving Machu Picchu is only one of the modern wonders of the world that can be found on the South American continent.

I applaud Emmanuelle Alt's punk chic approach to the May issue of Vogue Paris as inspired by the exhibit "Punk: Chaos to Couture," opening this month at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. I admire the current punk styling as well as the finely curated flashbacks. Brava, Emmanuelle ! Encore, s'il vous plait !

Le punk est dans l'air. Une attitude, des looks, un courant de fond, auxquels fait écho une formidable exposition au Met de New York («Punk : Chaos to Couture»).

Punk is in the air. An attitude, of the looks, an undercurrent, which echoes a great exhibition at the Met in New York ("Punk: Chaos to Couture"). During the Winter 2014 shows, we noted the rebellious allure of Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent, the vinyl and nails from Donatella Versace, the colorful mohawks at Fendi, or even the waders bristling with chains at Chanel. The punk movement, the origins, was born in New York at the turn of the 70s at the end of a Bowery bar. What was the motto? Refute the law of business, assert its identity. In London, Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood, the brilliant and anarchist duo, took over in their shop on King's Road. Jeans and torn t-shirts, safety pins, skinheads raced down the street. It was not a flash in the pan. Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, as well as Marc Jacobs, Rick Owens, Karl Lagerfeld, Riccardo Tisci have in turn drawn from the punk codes. A revolution of style, "Forever Young."

For A/W 2014 black is back in force — everywhere — as the new indispensable standard bearer for collections geared to offering a more understated look. For, although fashion has a variety of functions, such as creating aspirations or inspiring us to travel, this winter the mood is much cozier, more introspective, and classic, too.

The looks are more confident and more comforting, thanks to the rounded silhouettes and protectively snug top coats with timeless appeal. It's all about dressing up warmly, and not just because of the cold weather: the point is that it's actually a way of creating a more day-to-day, accomplished, independent and genuine allure. "Youthism" has, by and large, had its day and has now given way to bountiful femininity in the prime of life. Pride of place goes to strong, 40s-inspired pencil suit lines, the feel good glamour of pyjamas, the sensual pleasures of every kind of fur, the pure, robust — and soft-to-the-touch — personality of leather, as well as emblematic, assertive menswear touches. Which brings us to the season's centerpieces: blousons and biker jackets, which are here to remind us that, when all is said and done, women and men actually are from the same planet.

Editor's letter on the accessories

For A/W 2014, bags and clutches are impeccably foursquare, footwear comes with mostly pointy low heels and metallic detailing and sparkle flourish. Tortoiseshell, luxuriously graphic leather, and fire create a more natural look, with a strong focus on blacks, greys, and dashes of red. This winter, accessories are a celebration of truly civilized Ladyhood — the small pleasures in life and the height of refinement, punctuated by a more masculine streak in the form of biker jackets or studded punk rock influences. Woman beautiful, on the one hand, woman rebel, on the other. These seemingly contradictory facets nonetheless see eye to eye on one important point: both assert their authenticity. No frills. The line-up of accessories, dainty and more rugged alike, stay the distance, steadfastly designed to last, to keep us company and embellish the figure.
